Simple steps to find your UPI ID on payment apps

    What Is UPI ID?

UPI ID, full form Unified Payments Interface Identification, is a unique identifier that allows for the easy sending and receiving of payments within India's UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system. Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI facilitates instant money transfer between bank accounts via a mobile platform. A UPI ID, also called a Virtual Payment Address (VPA), essentially acts like an email address for your money.

    Key Benefits Of UPI ID

    • Simplicity: A UPI ID can be as simple as your phone number or name followed by the handle of your UPI service provider. UPI ID examples include phonenumber@upi, yourname@sbi, 9812345678@apl, etc.
    • Security: Using a UPI ID to make transactions means you do not have to share your bank account details or other sensitive financial information.
    • Versatility: UPI IDs can be used to pay utility bills, make in-store payments, pay for online shopping, or even make donations.
    • Instant Transfers: Payments through UPI are instant and can be done 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
    • Multiple Bank Accounts: A single UPI app can link multiple bank accounts, so you can manage all your transfers and balances from a single interface.
    • No Need For Bank Details: Only the recipient's UPI ID is necessary to make a payment. There is no need to enter lengthy account numbers or IFSC codes.

    How It Works

    1. Set-Up: To use UPI, you must first create a UPI ID linked to your bank account. This is typically done through your bank’s mobile app or any third-party app supporting UPI, like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.
    2. Make A Transaction: You need the recipient's UPI ID to send money. Enter the ID, the amount, and a description for the transaction (if required), and submit.
    3. Authentication: Authenticate the transaction using a PIN (Personal Identification Number) created when setting up your UPI account.
