In India, from opening a bank account to getting a passport, you need an Aadhaar Card for everything. It is the world's largest biometric ID system that is used as an identity card in the country.
Every citizen of India should have an identity card with a 12-digit unique number linked to their biometrics and demographic data.
An individual needs an Aadhaar card to avail government subsidies for completing KYC for a bank. It is an essential document, and without it, proving your identity becomes difficult.
Do you still not have your Aadhaar card or want to update the old one? The first step to getting your Aadhaar card starts with filling out the Aadhaar Enrollment Form correctly. Even a small mistake can delay your application. This blog will guide you on how to apply for an Aadhaar Card.
Aadhaar Enrollment Form is an official document that is used to apply for a new Aadhaar number or update the old one. According to the UIDAI official Form 1 (latest format), it collects the following information to complete the process.
1. Demographic Details - In this, the person needs to add details like name, date of birth, gender and address details.
2. Contact Details - This required the person’s contact number and email address. Make sure to give a primary mobile number that is used everywhere.
3. Document Verification - Submit identity proof with 10th result card. Use the electricity bill for address proof. These documents were later verified in the enrollment centre.
4. Consent Declaration -At the end, a consent statement needs to be signed. This confirms the information provided is correct and agrees to use the data as per the Aadhaar Act 2016.
Once all these details are filled in and verified, they will link this biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans of the person.
To fill an UIDAI Enrollment Form, some basic details are required with document proof.
Personal Details
According to UIDAI, the name must match the POI document to avoid rejection.
Address Details
Filing an Aadhaar Form is simple if done carefully and as per official instructions. Follow these simple steps for the Aadhaar application process.
Step 1. Download or collect the form
Visit the UIDAI website and download the Aadhaar enrollment form. Either visit the nearby Aadhaar enrollment centre and get it from there.
Step 2. Fill In Details
The enrollment form has two pages. On the first page, fill in personal details, name, date of birth, and address. The second page has instructions on how to fill out the form. Follow the instructions to avoid any mistakes.
Step 3. Upload Document for Verification
Upload the required document to prove your identity and other information. Kindly ensure to upload the correct documents only. Attach documents to the physical form.
Step 4. Visit the Enrollment Centre for Biometrics
Visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra with the downloaded physical enrollment form. There, your biometric-like photograph, fingerprints and iris scans will be taken for authenticity.
Step 5. Review before submission
Review the form properly before submission. After this, the authorities will verify all your details for Aadhaar.
To ensure the authenticity, UIDAI requires valid documents under different categories.
1. Proof of Identity (POI)- It is used to verify the name and identity of the individual. PAN card, Passport or voter ID can be used as POI.
2. Proof of Address (POA) - Utility bills or a bank passbook will confirm the residential address of the applicant.
3. Proof of D.O.B - To verify the age, the applicant's birth certificate or school marksheets are required.
4. Proof of Relationship (POR) - This is required for children or family-based enrollment. A ration card or a marriage certificate is used as relationship proof.
Documents must be original and valid. They are digitally scanned at the centre.
These are some common mistakes to avoid while filling out the application form.
1. Mismatched Documents
The information provided in the form must match the supporting documents. If the name, DOB or any other info does not match the document proof, then this will lead to rejection.
2. Incorrect Documents
Unclear fingertips and improper iris scan can also lead to rejection of the application. Smiling in a photo can even affect your Aadhaar data quality.
3. Form Filling Errors
Small errors, such as spelling mistakes, wrong pin code or missing details, can also lead to rejection in the enrollment process.
4. Linked Incorrect Mobile Number
It is important to link a valid number with the Aadhaar so that you can receive any OTP or important updates.
5. Using Unofficial Websites
Using unofficial sites puts our personal data at risk, and this can lead to fraud. Always use the official website UIDAI for Aadhaar Enrollment.
After submitting the Aadhaar enrollment form, the application will go through a few steps before the Aadhaar is generated and delivered.
1. Acknowledgement Slip
After submission, the applicant gets an application slip. They get a 14-digit EID. This can help them track the Aadhaar status.
2. Verification Process
In this process, the Unique Identification Authority of India will check the details and biometrics of the person and make sure there are no duplicates.
3. Aadhaar Generation
Once everything is verified, the 12-digit Unique Aadhaar number will be generated. The applicant will get an update on their linked mobile number.
4. Delivery
The Aadhar card is printed and sent to the applicant's address through the Indian post
5. Check status and download e-Aadhaar
If a person does not receive their Aadhaar card, they can also download e-Aadhaar online. This is equally valid as the original one.
Filling the Aadhaar enrollment form carefully can help avoid delays in verification and ensure your identity records stay accurate.
